The Breast health program in Bengaluru is about promoting breast health, in view of the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) indicating that the incidence of Breast Cancer will overtake cervical cancer which is the number 1 cancer in Indian women by the year 2020. Hence it becomes necessary to inform women about the right approach to containing this epidemic thus empowering women with the knowledge and support to make informed choices about their health.

IEEE EMBS Bangalore Chapter and Medical Electronics Department of M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT) in association with Anjana Diagnostics Center, Indira Nagar Bangalore organized ten days free breast screening camp from 21 May to 31 May 2013 at Anjana Diagnostics, Indira Nagar II Stage, Bangalore, Karnataka.  This event is also co-organized by IEEE Bangalore Chapter, Rotary Club-Bangalore High Grounds, National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu and Indira Gandhi Atomic Energy Centre, Kalpakkam

The screening was done using thermography as well as Ultrasonography procedure on 100 women with an intention to create awareness among them. Participants from rural areas, MSRIT, MSR Degree College and ladies from all over Bangalore took part. This camp provided them the right understanding and approach to Breast Health with specific reference to the early detection of Breast Cancer by offering a zero-radiation approach to detecting breast cancer at its earliest stages using technology that measures heat emitted from body tissue and another using very high frequency sound (Ultrasound).

The camp ended with a valedictory function on 31^st July with Chief Guest as the Honourable minister for Health and Family welfare – Sri. U. T. Khader.

Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni, Principal, MSRIT welcomed Sri. U. T. Khader, Honourable minister for Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka Government, Dr. Ramprakash from Central Diagnostic Research Centre, Bangalore, Dr. Venkataraman from IGCAR, Mr. Mahadeva Prasad from Rotary Bangalore High Grounds and Dr. Shenabagavalli from National Engineering College, Tamil Nadu. He further pointed out that though MSRIT is an Engineering College, it has taken the initiative to organize a very important event such as Breast Cancer Screening Camp. His emphasis was on creating Health awareness in terms of early Diagnosis held at regular intervals.

After all the dignitaries addressed the audience, Sri. U. T. Khader, Honourable Health and family minister addressed the audience and expressed his desire to make Karnataka a healthy state and a leader in Health care and cure. He also requested the NGOs, Healthcare institutions and related associations in joining hands with the government in removing the cause for disease instead of later spending a huge amount on curing the disease. In this context he informed the audience that he has signed on the bill Banning Ghutka. He concluded thanking the organizers of this camp in taking the initiative to organize such an important event and further requested them to send proposals to make Karnataka a healthy state.
