Tuesday, October 14, 2016 – Duke Energy – System Operations (Charlotte) P.E.S. Seminar

P.E.S. will be hosting a seminar of Sam Holeman and David Mc Ree who will be presenting on the Duke Energy Carolina’s Bulk Electric System as well as what happened to the Grid on the past ‘Polar Vortex’ and the future changes future power engineers will face sustaining grid operations.

Engineers from the Utilities in South Carolina as well as a local manufacturer of power equipment will be joint-hosting a seminar on Utilities.

Thursday, April 25, 2013, 6:30pm – Officer Elections

IEEE Clemson Student Branch Officers were held on April 25, 2013. Any paid member had the opportunity to vote. The results of the elections were as follow: Chair – Joe Lavalliere, Vice Chair – Taylor Steinberg, Secretary – Scott Winters, Membership Development Chair – Tom Tarter.

Thursday, Mar. 14, 2013, 6:30pm – Dr. Todd Hubing speaks on Vehicle Electronics

Clemson’s finest Vehicle Electronics professor led tonight’s meeting by talking about trends in the vehicle industry. And since Toyota has been in the news recently about an alarming number of cases of unintended acceleration happening in its vehicles, Dr. Hubing addressed the topic of unintended acceleration and what could cause it.

Condrey Corporation PresentingDavid Condrey from Condrey Corporation in Greenville, SC was our guest speaker tonight. He spoke about his journey from being a Clemson Computer Engineering major to the CEO of a successful startup company.

 

Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013 – Group Meeting of Upstate Branches/Section

On February 21st, the IEEE Clemson Student Branch invited the sister branches out from Bob Jones University and Greenville Technical College to listen to and connect with speakers from three companies around the area: Michelin, Eaton, and Teknor Apex. The Piedmont Section was also present. As usual, there were pizza and drinks available for members. Tonight was a good demonstration of some what the Clemson Student Branch stands for. We connected employers and students for the benefit of both parties.

Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, 7pm – TED Talk, “Connected But Alone”

ted_logoThis evening, our usual Eat -> Socialize -> Listen format was changed. We still ate and socialized, but the goal tonight was to draw out good discussion about the TED Talk we watched by Sherry Turkle.

Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 – Student Paper Competition

IEEE Technical PresentationThe competition was strong but the number of participants few: Thomas Veith spoke on his research in a Creative Inquiry Team, and John Bohannon on a polymorphic virus he wrote for a network security class. In the end, John had the win by a few points’ margin. Judging for the evening were members of the IEEE Piedmont Section.
