International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems. Such days also call for celebration and reinforcement of achievements of humanity. The UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. Such a day is World Humanitarian Day (WHD).
World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world. This year’s WHD campaign is revolving around #Women Humanitarians.
This World Humanitarian Day 2019 we honor and celebrate women in crises throughout the world.
IEEE WIE BUET Student Branch Affinity Group in association with IEEE BUET Student Branch celebrated ‘World Humanitarian Day’ 2019 by organizing an inter-university article writing competition. It was an open competition for all with a submission time from 10 August to 19 August. The topic of the article was ‘Security Can’t Wait: Ensuring Female Safety in Bangladesh’ in purpose of focusing on the unsung heroes who have long been working on the front lines in their own communities.
It was our immense pleasure to announce that among all the responses, we found the best two articles. The Winner of the Inter-University Article Writing Competition was Syed Sadia Hossain from Bangladesh University of Professionals and the Runner-up is Abdur Rahman Showrov from Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, Dhaka.
We give our heartiest congratulations to our winner and runner-up. We also thank all participants who sent their articles and made our event into a successful venture.
