Events

It has been decided that IEEE AUST Student Branch will try to arrange 3-4 workshops and two seminars per semester. Since engineering education cannot be completed without any practical knowledge and industries are the best place to acquire that knowledge, IEEE AUST SB will try to arrange an industrial tour each semester. IEEE AUST SB is also enthusiastic to arrange several other events such as job fair or project show or larger events in collaboration with IEEE Bangladesh Section.

Details about our upcoming and past events can be found below.

A hierarchical transactive energy management framework @ Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology

A hierarchical transactive energy management framework @ Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology

IEEE AUST Student Branch and IEEE PES Bangladesh Section are jointly organizing an Inter University technical talk on “A hierarchical transactive energy management framework for residential microgrids”.

This talk will cover a hierarchical transactive energy management framework for a residential microgrid to share excess energy of prosumers with neighbors. A three-level hierarchical structure will be covered which facilitates energy management in different houses, energy sharing and transactions among neighbors as well as with the grid. The priority of sharing energy among different houses in a microgrid as well as with the grid is set in such a way that the houses, which have their own generation, will first fulfill their own demand. The power sharing among different houses demonstrates that there are some savings in electricity for a certain period. A generalized cost-benefit analysis framework has been developed by considering different tariff structures (flat rate and feed-in tariff) to assess the financial benefits of patrons to be involved in transactive energy management platform. Results from the analysis demonstrate that with the ever decreasing feed-in tariff, not only the prosumers but the residents without renewable energy sources and energy storage systems can be benefitted through the proposed transactive energy management scheme.

Speaker:

Dr. Apel Mahmud received his Bachelor degree in electrical and electronic engineering with honors (first class first position) from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Bangladesh, in 2008 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, with the best thesis award in 2012.
In Australia, he worked as a research publication fellow at the University of New South Wales. He also worked as a research fellow at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and as a lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He is currently working as a lecturer at Deakin University, Australia. He is also serving as a Chair of IEEE PES Victorian Chapter and a committee member of IEEE PES Dynamic Performance Committee, USA.
He has published more than 120 scholarly articles over last six year including thirty two high quality journal papers.

On Tuesday January 23, 2018, IEEE AUST Student Branch and IEEE AUST SB WIE Affinity Group is going to organize a workshop on LaTeX titled as “Learn to Write Research Papers Using LaTeX”. This Workshop will be held in the DSP lab of Dept. of EEE at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST).

LaTeX which is pronounced as a Lay-Tech is a document preparation system for high quality typesetting. It is mainly designed for high quality scientific or Technical documentation. LaTeX is widely used in academia for the communication and publication of scientific documents of many field. It has a prominent role in preparation of article that contains complex multilingual materials.

LaTeX seems to be handy tools when it comes to the point of writing a scientific article, research paper, journal or even the thesis paper about which most of final year students are very much concerned about.

This workshop is going to be conducted by Shoilie Chakma, Lecturer, IAT, BUET.
