Scaling laws to design LLC resonant converters to Wireless Power Transfer Systems

July 25, 2019 @ 9:15 pm - 11:00 pm

See how we can take a resonant (LLC) kernel of a certain wattage at a certain frequency and scale it to any power level and any frequency, using scaling laws, hitherto virtually hidden in plain sight. See how that helps also understand current wireless power techniques, which as will be revealed, are simply LLC topologies in disguise, provided of course they are executed correctly! Visually see how incorrect implementations can cause "unforeseen" interoperability issues too.   Speaker(s): Sanjaya Maniktala, Agenda:…

Comminications Society San Francisco Meeting

July 31, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm

One of the most important features in 5G cellular communications is the super high bandwidth efficiency (BWE bps/Hz). The talk first presents how BWE increases from SU SISO (1-2G), to MIMO (3-4G) and to MU MIMO (4-5G). Then it explains how MU MIMO allows multiple users to communicate at the same time and in the same bandwidth using the subspace method. The DL transmits in the null space (NS) of its interference space and UL receives in the left NS…

How to See a Black Hole in Space

August 6, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm

The Event Horizon Telescope, a Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) array operating at mm radio wavelengths, recently produced the first direct image of a black hole. The image shows a bright ring of radio emission surrounding the black hole's shadow. General Relativity predicts that the ring is roughly 2.5 times the size of the event horizon, the boundary of no return beyond which neither light nor matter can escape the black hole's gravitational pull. The ring is 42 microarcseconds in…

AI, ML and Storage

August 7, 2019 @ 10:00 pm - August 8, 2019 @ 12:00 am

Co-sponsored by: CIS and CS   Session Description: This session covers how the RISC-V revolution is enabling new accelerators for machine learning (ML), the importance of the computation engines that understand the stored data, the new implementations of these computation engines at the storage edge, and a different approach than the digital logic-based computation units for artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators. This approach allows flash memory-based analog computing applications to reduce the cost and power of AI and ML accelerators. AI…

Doping profile control via oxygen-insertion silicon channel and its benefit of device performance

August 13, 2019 @ 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Speaker: Hideki Takeuchi, Atomera Inc. Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 6:00PM Texas Instruments Conference Center 2900 Semiconductor Dr, Building E, Santa Clara, CA 95051 FREE PIZZA PROVIDED *** RSVP :https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JHGZWT2 *** Abstract Interstitial trapping by OI (oxygen-inserted) silicon channel results in blocking of boron and phosphorus TED (transient enhanced diffusion) as well as retention of channel boron profiles during the gate oxidation process. The OI layers are also beneficial for achieving USJ (ultra-shallow junctions) with low sheet resistance (Rsh) formed…

Spin-Orbit Technologies: From Magnetic Memory to Terahertz Generation

August 13, 2019 @ 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm
City: San Jose, 2050 Gateway
San Jose, CA 95110 United States

http://site.ieee.org/scv-mag/event/spin-orbit-technologies-from-magnetic-memory-to-terahertz-generation/ 2019 IEEE Magnetics Society Distinguished Lecturer (one of four) Hyunsoo Yang National University of Singapore Spintronic devices utilize an electric current to alter the state of a magnetic material and thus find great application in magnetic memory. Over the last decade, spintronic research has focused largely on techniques based on spin-orbit coupling, such as spin-orbit torques (SOTs), to alter the magnetic state. The phenomenon of spin-orbit coupling in magnetic heterostructures was also recently used to generate terahertz emission and thus…
