DEIS Distinguished Lecturer – dr Greg Stone at AGH UST
IEEE DEIS Chapter kindly invites you to the technical meeting on November 6, 2018 (Tuesday) which will be held at AGH UST.
place: AGH UST in Krakow, room 121 in B1 building, department of EAIiIB
The meeting will be devoted to the subject of Electrical Equipment Insulation Systems.
The meeting program will include a lecture by DEIS Distinguished Lecturer dr. Greg Stone with the title:
„Electrical insulation in rotating machines – aging, diagnostics, new challenges„
Dr. Greg Stone was one of the developers of on-line partial discharge test methods to evaluate the condition of the high voltage insulation in stator windings. From 1975 to 1990 he was a Dielectrics Engineer with Ontario Hydro, a large Canadian power generation company. Since 1990, Dr. Stone has been employed at Iris Power L.P. in Toronto Canada, a motor and generator condition monitoring company he helped to form. Greg Stone has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada), and is a Fellow of the IEEE.
Abstract:
This lecture will give a quick overview of the insulation systems used in conventional motors, hydro generators and turbo generators rated 3 kV and above. The most significant stator winding insulation system aging mechanisms seen in currently operating machines are then described. Some specific insulation issues with DFIG machines and variable speed motors are highlighted. The challenges for the insulation in an era of continuously increasing thermal, mechanical and electrical stresses are also discussed. Advances in machine insulation monitoring will be summarized.
The meeting is open to the public,
best regards,
Maciej Kuniewski
