AURA 2.0 – Virtual Technical Fest for Women Organized by IEEE PES SBC SCTCE

A virtual technical fest including DLP, workshops, and various competitions was organized by WiP, WIE AG and WIC of SB of Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE).

The IEEE PES Women in Power (WiP), Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group and Women in Computing (WIC) of IEEE Student Branch of Sree Chitra Thirunal College of Engineering (SCTCE) organized a virtual technical fest exclusively for women from 27th November 2021 to 08th December 2021.

AURA 2.0 was one of the flagship events of the SB and this was the second edition of the event. Its predecessor won the IEEE MGA’s Darrel Chong Bronze Award. It was an exclusive event for all girl students to help foster their talents and improve their confidence and skills. It was a 2 week long event consisting of multiple technical and non-technical competitions and workshops.

The inaugural ceremony was conducted on 27th November 2021 in hybrid mode (both online and offline participation). The offline ceremony was conducted in the college with a participants limit of 30 and strictly abiding to covid protocol. Event was live streamed through youtube for the online participants. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair-Elect for the 2022 IEEE Women in Engineering Committee, Mrs. Sarada Jayakrishnan, Chair of IEEE Kerala Section and Mr. Nandan S, Chair of IEEE Kerala Young Professionals were the chief guests of the day.

AURA 2.0 was conducted as an inter SB competition and consisted of 3 workshops, 3 live interactive sessions and 9 competitions.

Inaugural Ceremony in Hybrid Mode

IEEE PES distinguished lecture program was also organized. The respected DL was Jonathan Woodworth, Consulting Engineer, Arresterworks. The title of the talk was “Surge Protection of Power Systems for Non-technical Professionals”.

Three workshops were held focusing on App development, Circuit Designing, and CAD Designing. The Aura 2.0 hosted a series of competitions and quizzes, such as Product review writing, EntrePioneer, Group discussion, Startup Idea, Miss Aura, Technical quiz, App development, CAD Designing, and Circuit Designing. There were two interactive sessions, one was organized by Nanma Gireesh (Co-founder, NestAbide) and the other one by Juliana Biju (Europe zone marketing intern at Loreal).

More than 400 participants from different colleges took part in the event. The closing and award ceremony was scheduled on December 8th. A cultural night was organized by Albin Antony (Stand up comedian) and Akash Ashokan (Interactive illusionist). Aura was able to meet the goal of providing girl students a platform to come up with their skills and ideas. The event witnessed the true potential and confidence of girls from different colleges which made Aura 2.0 a grand success.
