PES Guanajuato and Queretaro Joint Sections Chapter in Mexico organized 4-day long online course on distribution and power transformers conducted by PES DL Guillermo Rodriguez.

In order to celebrate the IEEE Day, the IEEE PES Guanajuato and Queretaro Joint Sections Chapter in Mexico organized a 4-day online course on the topic of “Distribution and Power Transformers up to 30 MVA” delivered by the PES Distinguished Lecturer Guillermo Rodriguez from Colombia on October 11th, 13th, 15th and 18th, 2021. Mr. Guillermo Rodriguez obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the National University of Colombia in Bogotá and the University of London (Queen Mary College) in 1972, and 1977, respectively. He worked at Telecom Colombia, Colombian Electric Power Institute, Westinghouse between 1972 and 1989. From 1990 to 2007 he worked with ABB USA in different positions, being the last as Export Director of ABB Transmission and Distribution Division of ABB USA. In 2008 he was appointed President of ABB Central America and the Caribbean. He retired in January 2014. Mr. Rodriguez is a PES distinguished lecturer and a senior life member of IEEE. He has taught many courses in the IEEE on Transmission and Distribution topics.

For this online course there were 20 attendees from industrial and academic sectors, including students and professors form Universities in Mexico City and Ciudad Madero. From industry participants were from the north, central and south part of Mexico. The importance of the agenda that included topics as Transformer Theory, Pole and Pad Mounted Transformers, Dry and Small Power Transformers was the update from Mexican Standards as ANCE and CFE and also from ANSI Standards.

Due to the applicability of this Mexican codes and the technical content of excellent quality, during the session, participants elaborate interesting questions that were discussed, because of this, two bonus sessions will be held on December 3rd and 6th.

The PES Chapter made an application to give PDH Certificates to attendees due to the importance of the material given from the instructor, which included technical articles related to the questions asked. In the Evaluation, 90% of the attendees found that the technical content was appropriate and 80% considered that their knowledge on the topic increased to a level that made attendance worthwhile.
