A Webinar on Climate Change was Delivered at WoW 2.0 by Shay Bahramirad
A webinar on climate change was delivered by Shay Bahramirad at wow 2.0 co-hosted by PES SB Chapter at MESCE.
IEEE PES SB Chapter MESCE co-hosted the fifth version of Women of Wisdom (WoW) 2.0 in collaboration with PES Kerala Chapter, WiP Kerala, R10 WiP, WIE AG Kerala and WIE AG MESCE. Dr. Shay Bahramirad was the speaker in this event that was held on 24th August 2021 through Google Meet platform. The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Nafeesa K, WiP coordinator of PES Kerala Chapter, Head of Department, EEE, MESCE and its PES chapter advisor. Then Er. Suhair A K, Chairperson of PES Kerala Chapter who is also the founder treasurer of IEEE Kerala Section delivered the presidential address.
Dr. Shay Bahramirad is the Vice President of Climate and Resilience at Quanta Technology and an Adjunct Professor at Illinois Institute of Technology. She is also an IEEE Senior Member and Recipient of 2014 IEEE PES Young Engineer Award. She is PES Vice President of New Initiative and Outreach, overseeing PES engagement with policymakers globally on technical issues, emerging technologies, Smart Cities and Smart Village. She is also an editorial board member of Electricity Journal and a contributor to the United Nations Goal-7, Clean and Affordable Energy. She holds patents and several graduate degrees including a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. She advises cities and utilities with operational risk assessment and developing mitigation strategies for adapting to climate change. Her research and teaching are focused on Microgrids, Elements of Sustainable Energy and Smart Grid. She has held several executive positions in the Energy Sector, including Vice President of Engineering and Smart Grid at ComEd, the electric utility in Illinois.
In the talk Dr. Shay Bahramirad talked about Climate Change and Electric Power System Resilience Planning. During Q&A session, along with participants Er. Suhair also asked a question about mitigation. After the session excellencies like Ms. Jiby Krishna K G, secretary WIE AG, Kerala Section, Er. K S Saran, SAC, PES Kerala gave felicitation. The program was concluded by the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Sreelakshmi V, WiP Student Representative – Kochi Hub. The event witnessed more than 57 participants from in and out of Kerala.
