Interactive Workshop on Renewable Energy by Hasala Dharmawardena at RCOEM Student Branch

IEEE Student Branch of Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering Management organized an event titled “Interactive workshop on Renewable Energy for Greening the Grid” on 24th January 2021. The virtual workshop was conducted via Google Meet. The guest speaker of the workshop was Hasala Dharmawardena who is currently a Graduate Research Assistant at Clemson University, South Carolina, USA. Hasala is a great PES volunteer. Currently he is the Regions 1-7 Student Chapter Coordinator. He was the General Chair of the 2020 PES Global Student Congress. In the past he was PES Chapter Chair, Piedmont Section.

Hasala gave a wonderful presentation by highlighting some of the worth-notifying fields of effective use of green energy to develop the power system.

He graphically illustrated electricity generation from different renewable energy sources. His major focus was to explain how solar; wind and other green sources help in cutting down expensive costs for power generation. He presented gross calculations to express the amount of electricity required to be produced for a single city (Nagpur). Then, he very effectively suggested how electricity can be saved by implying powerful and innovative technology. He supported his statements by giving pictorial proof of the significant increase of electric vehicles in France and Norway. He explained the demands of the green grid technology and its advantages as well as disadvantages. He also gave importance to Artificial Intelligence Technology as an essential tool for Power System.

Overall, it was a very interactive and lively session. Number of participants was more than 80. The participants responded very well to this planned activity. The end of the event was marked by a small question and answer session of 5 minutes.
