Editor’s Corner: March 2021

In the Voice of Governing Board Section, we are honored to present a very informative article from Prof. Bikash Pal, IEEE PES Vice-President Publications. He informed us about the open access publication policies in PES. He shared detailed statistics on the article submission, acceptance rate, publication fees, and time duration to get the first decision for the case of all five PES Transactions: Energy Conversion, Power Delivery, Power System, Smart Grid, and Sustainable Energy. He also provided updates on society magazines.

In this issue, we are going to present updates on three PES distinguished lecture programs. The first one was conducted by Dr. Jessica Bian and organized by IEEE PES Queensland Chapter. Under the title ‘Grid Reliability and its Vital Signs’, Dr. Jessica Bian provided insights on the underlying vital signs of grid health condition. IEEE PES Peru organized a DL event. The distinguished lecturer of this event was Prof. S. N. Singh who delivered a talk on ‘Role of forecasting in power system’. PES SB Chapter VJE in collaboration with PES Kerala Chapter organized a DL program with distinguished lecturer Yousu Chen. The topic of the talk was ‘Computational challenges for power systems operation’.

Next we are presenting another informative brief article written by Dr. Damir Novosel, IEEE PES Industry Technical Support Leadership Committee (ITS LC) Chair. He presented briefly about the external cooperation, document preparation, and Corporate Engagement Program (CEP). We are delighted to get the highlights from 2021 PES Day Chair Chaitali Naik on all upcoming major events.

We are covering articles received from PES Women in Power (WiP). Recently PES WiP R10, in partnership with WePower, organized a virtual celebration, in the honor of International Women’s Day. There is an update on PES WiP Summit in R10 at 6th IEEE WIECON-ECE.

Finally, technical seminar updates from two PES SB Chapters were included in this issue of PES Enews. The first one is from VCE SB Chapter regarding a Power Colloquium involving nine speakers. The second one is from RSET SB Chapter reporting a webinar offered by Ajith Gopi. An event update from IEEE Student Branch of RCOEM is included which highlights the interactive workshop conducted by Hasala Dharmawardena.

I humbly request PES volunteers to submit updates on major activities/events/ initiatives/achievements. Please try to send one comprehensive article with some photographs instead of sending multiple articles containing one event in each article. If possible, you may provide the link containing the recorded video of the events/webinars.
