An online Awareness Session for the new batch of University of Moratuwa was held by the IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter (SBC) of University of Moratuwa on 13th of December 2020. Dr. Lidula N. Widanagama Arachchige, SBC Advisor, Senior Lecturer of Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Dr. Hussain Mahdi, R10 PES CSAC Representative, R10 YP SE Asia Coordinator, R10 HTA Committee member, IEEE PES YP Committee Academic Liaison and Mr. Chamika Sudusinghe, IEEE Sri Lanka Sectional Student Representative, Undergraduate University of Moratuwa, Public Relations and Publicity Chair at 2020 IEEE PES Global Student Congress were invited as the guest speakers of this session. The event succeeded with more than 100 participants. Speakers gave clear ideas about IEEE and PES, and their functions, benefits, opportunities, awards and global events. There were two Mentee Questionnaires held within the session with some prizes.

The PES SBC successfully conducted recruitment campaign by the end of the year with the IEEE and PES promotional codes. Two weeks long campaign was organized using social media of the SBC’s Facebook page, LinkedIn page and WhatsApp groups. More than 300 members got their IEEE membership at the end of the year 2020.


Winner: Inosha Kavindi Senarathna Sooriyabandara

Based on 2020 volunteer activities and support to the PES SBC, Inosha Kavindi Senarathna Sooriyabandara was recognized as the “IEEE PES SBC University of Moratuwa Volunteer of the Year”. Seven chapter activities were organized throughout the year 2020. The winner was selected by the SBC advisor based on the applications. Inosha’s contribution to the events was highly appreciated.
