Editor’s Corner: January 2021

2020 was the most critical year due to COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout the year, almost for every event we have seen transition from traditional face-to-face mode to full-virtual (online) mode. However, our PES volunteers tried their level best to achieve the best possible outcome in the changed new form of events, even with several limitations. Starting from the PES Day technical/educational online events, the PES GM and many other conferences, seminars, meetings, trainings, distinguished lectures were held online. All twelve issues of PES Enews were successfully published covering more than 120 articles from respected members of Board of Governors, chapters, student branch chapters, DL programs, region representatives, YP, WiP, PES-HAC, conferences/meetings, technical committees, and special programs. Our heart-felt thanks to all PES volunteers for your kind contribution during the pandemic.

In the Voice of Governing Board Section of IEEE PES Enews, we decided to repeat the important article from Nouredine Hadjsaid, IEEE PES Treasurer. He has precisely demonstrated the financial aspects of IEEE PES where we can realize the resilience of PES even in the most critical situations of COVID-19. In this issue, we are going to present a very successful event Women of Wisdom (WOW) that offered International Tech-Talk Webinar Series. Ten eminent women speakers presented their talks in ten WOW events. The event was jointly organized by IEEE PES WiP, Kerala Section, IEEE PES Kerala and IEEE WIE Kerala Section, in association with IEEE Region 10 PES WiP and hosted by IEEE SB TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. We are glad to present the announcement of the Chair of IEEE PES Day 2021. Congratulation to the new Chair Chaitali Naik who is a very dedicated PES volunteer with lot of experiences. Thanks to 2020 PES Day Chair Machani Ajay Kumar for successfully leading the initiatives during the pandemic.

An update on educational activities in PES Day 2020 is presented where IEEE PES Day 2020, in conjunction with the IEEE PES YP Continuing Education Program, hosted a series of online webinars covering the recent developments in power industry. Next article describes a new initiative of IEEE PES: United Nations Youth Sustainable Energy Hub (YSEH). One of the objectives of this global platform is to stimulate youth participation in creating sustainable energy solutions. There are updates from PES Victoria Chapter and two PES student branch chapters: University of Moratuwa and RIT Kottayam. There is also an update on PES Executive Director Search is in progress.

I humbly request PES volunteers to submit updates on major activities/events/ initiatives/achievements. Please try to send one comprehensive article with some photographs instead of sending multiple articles containing one event in each article. If possible, you may provide the link containing the recorded video of the events/webinars.

I wish you a safe and happy new year.
