In the Voice of the Governing Board Section of IEEE PES Enews, we are honored to have an article from Nouredine Hadjsaid, IEEE PES Treasurer. He has nicely presented some major financial aspects of IEEE PES at a glance. He has pointed out the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on various regular activities of IEEE PES, in particular the organization of flagship conferences, like IEEE PES GM and T&D Conference. I found an important message for PES members in his article: “IEEE PES has shown its resilience in the face of critical situations such as COVID-19”.

In this issue, we are going to present an update on IEEE Region 10 PES activities from Dean Sharafi, IEEE PES Regional Representative Asia and Pacific. PES members will be happy to know that in spite of pandemic and total travel restrictions, many conferences, workshops and technical events in Region 10 went ahead in full virtual mode. He has provided important feedback: “while the remote meetings were not as effective as face-to-face meetings, they could reach out to a larger population and provide wider coverage.”

We are honored to share an update on a recent online distinguished lecture (DL) delivered by Professor Bikash Pal, FIEEE, Professor at Imperial College London and Vice President of PES Publications. The event was organized by the Italy Section PES Chapter. The title of the virtual DL talk was “Dynamic Modeling for Analysis of Wind Farm and Grid Interaction”.

During the pandemic, PES Malaysia Chapter has organized the Electrical Power System Simulation Competition (EPSSCOM) and we have an update on that event in this issue.

It is a great honor for us to spotlight two award winners in this issue, one from the global IEEE and the other one from the IEEE PES. The award winners are Professor Stephen McArthur, a recipient of the 2021 IEEE Richard Harold Kaufmann Award, and M. Michelle Blaise, a recipient of the 2020 IEEE PES Leadership in Power Award.

We also included an article from IEEE PES Student Branch (SB) Chapter of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (RSET). It is very inspiring that the chapter launched the IEEE and IEEE PES websites and a blog at the very first year of their inception.

I encourage all the PES chapters and student branch chapters to submit articles describing their major activities/initiatives/events/achievements. We appreciate if you provide the link containing the video of the events/webinars in the article. Please try to send one comprehensive article with some photographs instead of sending multiple articles containing one event in each article.

I wish you stay safe during this global crisis.
