Editor’s Corner: October 2020
In the Voice of the Governing Board Section of IEEE PES Enews, we are honored to have an article from Dr. Jessica J. Bian, 2020-21 PES President-Elect. She shared the PES strategic long-range plan (LRP): strategic goals, actions, and metrics around membership services. She pointed out some major functional areas and mentioned the PES strategies in these areas. She brought a very important aspect of engineering, the half-life of an engineering degree, and how it is changing since 1930. In this connection, she explained PES initiatives that provide life-long learning resources, services, and events.
We are pleased to share an update on a recent online distinguished lecture (DL) delivered by Professor Bikash Pal, Fellow of IEEE and Vice President of PES Publications. The event was organized by the University of Birmingham IEEE Student Branch and IEEE PES UK and Ireland Section. The title of the talk was “Dynamic Estimation and Control of Power System” and the video link is also provided.
In this issue we are covering a detailed article on IEEE PES Women in Power (WiP) Congress in Region 10 the first ever kind of IEEE PES WiP Congress with a huge number of accomplished speakers and attendees from all over the world. The Congress was organized by IEEE PES WiP, WIE Affinity Group of IEEE Bangladesh Section, and IEEE Bangladesh Section.
We covered news updates of a webinar organized by the IEEE Thailand Section along with IEEE PES WiP Malaysia and Thailand Chapters. We have covered detailed updates from four PES student branch chapters: Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology (RSET), University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), and University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila. We also included an update on the 2020 IEEE Election Results. Claudio Canizares, Fellow of IEEE was elected as the 2021 Division VII Direct-elect, and Bruno Meyer, Fellow of IEEE, who was IEEE Division VII Director during 2018-19 was elected as the 2021 IEEE Technical Activities Vice President-Elect.
I encourage PES chapters and student branch chapters to submit an article describing their major activities/ initiatives/events/achievements. We appreciate it if you provide the link containing the video of the webinars in the article. Please try to send one comprehensive article with some photographs instead of sending multiple articles containing one event in each article.
