Webinar on Sustainability in Oil and Gas and Petrochemical Industry

A webinar on sustainability in the oil and gas and petrochemical industry was jointly organized by the SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., IEEE PES Malaysia Chapter, and IEEE Young Professionals Malaysia Chapter on 19th May 2020 via Cisco WebEx online. SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC being the global specialist in energy management and automation undertakes to contribute to the sustainable development goals (SDGs), which is a universal call to action launched by the United Nations to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The webinar provided some insights on SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC’s approaches toward sustainability and strategies in the oil and gas and petrochemical industry.

One of the Approaches Presented

The keynote presentation of the webinar was delivered by Mr. Eric Koenig who is the Director of Oil and Gas Strategy and Marketing segment for SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC, based in France. He possesses a vast experience in the industry with broad industrial automation and energy-efficient system. He has also been involved in SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC business acquisition activities over the last 15 years.

The webinar began with an introductory presentation about IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) by Dr. Haroon Rashid (IEEE PES Malaysia Executive Committee) and was later followed by the keynote presentation. The event was successfully conducted and has attracted 55 participants from industry and academic institutions, from thirteen (13) countries across all continents.

ABB Technology on Digital Power Transformer

A webinar on ABB TXpertTM (Power), the World’s 1st Digital Power Transformer was jointly organized by the ABB Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and IEEE PES Malaysia Chapter on 11th May 2020 via Cisco WebEx online. The TXpertTM is a new technology developed by ABB, is the world’s first digital Power Distribution transformer to meet the evolving needs of today’s power grid. The TXpertTM digital power distribution transformer measures, stores, and trends operating data and calculates transformer consumed life. It uses mature and reliable sensing technology with industrial computing components integrated directly into the transformer during manufacturing. TXpertTM increases low voltage (LV) network visibility, increases transformer optimized utilization, and provides accurate estimates of transformer retirement age.

Case Study Presentation

The webinar keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Bhaba Priyo Das who is the Lead Digital Business Developer (Asia Pacific Middle East Africa), based in Singapore for ABB Power Grids – Transformers. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE, Young Professional of IEC and has received the ‘New Zealand Young Engineer of the Year Award’ in 2017.
