A webinar series was organized by IEEE Chile Section on “Generators Connected to Main Grid”. The webinars were held in 13 and 27 May. The speaker of these webinars was Hugo Sánchez, IEEE Senior Member from Toronto Section, Canada. Mr. Hugo has wide experience working in utilities in Toronto, also he is a strongly motivated volunteer in IEEE Toronto Section.

In the first webinar, the speaker covered an overview regarding the evolution of the distribution network as well as the evolution of the distributed generators and how they have been integrated to the distribution network. In addition, some examples about the evolution of the renewable energies throughout Latin America were presented. Finally, the standards necessary for connecting distributed generators to main grid were discussed. The webinar lasted approximately two hours engaging more than one hundred people from different countries, such as Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina.

In the second webinar, first of all a review of the types of distributed generators, which can be connected to the distribution system was provided. Second, an overview was given on the technical guidelines needed for connecting the distributed generators to the utilities of North America. Third, the development of smart grids and current trends regarding such topic were presented. Finally, some examples about applications of smart grids were provided. This webinar was lasted about two hours and a half engaging more than ninety people from different countries, such as Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Argentina.
