IEEE PES Day 2020: HAC & WiP Webinar
The mission of IEEE PES Women in Power (WiP) is to advance the world through the creativity and innovation of diverse leadership, and to foster the careers, connections, and talent of women in the Power Industry to achieve their full potential to become the leaders of the future. The IEEE Humanitarian Activity Committee (IEEE HAC) provides a suite of resources that inspire and enable IEEE volunteers around the world to carry out and support impactful humanitarian technology and sustainable development activities at the local level.
Today, volunteers play an even larger role in fostering the implementation of meaningful technology to better meet the needs of society, providing assistance to communities, and educating generations. The IEEE PES WiP and IEEE HAC team jointly hosted an inspiring webinar on 19 March 2020, focusing their roles as volunteers in the humanitarian sector. Advocates, Celia Shahnaz, Pia Torres, and Simay Akar shared insights on the need to volunteer for humanitarian activities, impactful ways to contribute as a volunteer, and examples of the humanitarian works they carried out. The webinar was moderated by Sainab Taiwo Ninalowo, the past WiP Chair. The panelists explained in detail the challenges and scope of many humanitarian technology and sustainable development activities. In the last part, the question answer session was also very informative.
