Selective Coordination Calculation in Low Voltage Technical Workshop in Queretaro City, Mexico
The IEEE Guanajuato and Queretaro Joint Sections PES Chapter organized a One-Day Technical Workshop titled: “Selective Coordination calculation in Low Voltage, emphasized in compliance of the local code NOM-001-SEDE-2018” on April 5, 2018 at Queretaro City. The event was planned as part of the PES Day Activities of the local chapter, it focused on the development of members of the industrial sector, and due to its importance, three PES new members join the Chapter.
The instructor was our Senior Member Roberto Ruelas-Gómez, MSc. He is a prestigious national speaker and an active PES chapter volunteer. He has extensive experience in selective coordination and short circuit calculations on the Mexican energy sector, he is part of the Mexican Electrical Inspectors Association (UVIE) for electrical installations and inspector of load centers and power plant interconnections.
The importance of this workshop is that attendees could understand that the selective coordination is the location of an over current condition to restrict interruptions in the circuit or in the affected equipment, carried out due the selection and installation of overcurrent protection devices and their adjustments or configurations for the full range of available over currents, from the overload to the maximum fault current available and for the full range of opening times of the overcurrent protection devices associated with such overcurrents.
The number of attendees were 50 which included students, most of them, members of the PES Student Chapter and electrical contractors and inspectors also employees of electrical companies from the States of Queretaro and San Luis Potosi, where this issue is a daily problem. The agenda covered during the technical workshop included regulations in the actual local code NOM-001-SEDE-2012 and changes on the regulations in the NOM-001-SEDE-2018, which is about to be published, electrical protection types and devices, circuit protection devices and their curves, equipment damage curves and examples of selective coordination.
