Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BRAC University has organized the first IEEE PES co-sponsored international conference in Bangladesh titled “2019 International Conference on Energy and Power Engineering (ICEPE)”, from 14th to 16th March, 2019 at BCDM, Savar, Dhaka.

Along with talks from distinguished keynote speakers, the program included panel sessions, parallel paper presentation sessions, tutorial and student project show. Details of the conference can be found in the official website.

The program was inaugurated by Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, BirBikram, adviser (Minister) to the Honorable Prime Minister, Energy Power & Mineral Resources (MPEMR) Affairs, and Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Prof. Shahidul Islam Khan, Chairperson of Department of EEE, BRAC University presented the welcome speech and  BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vincent Chang also spoke at the program.

Prof. Saifur Rahman, President, IEEE Power and Energy Society was present and conducted a panel talk session on “Cross-border Power Exchange: Vision, Examples and Technical Issues”. He presented a vision for a global power interconnection, showing that engineering cooperation could rise above political differences as regions including Europe, Middle East, North and Southern Africa, the Gulf, Russia and Central Asia were already jointly sharing grids to manage surplus, deficiencies and emergencies.

Dr. Yu Jun, State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and Prof. Anjan Bose, Washington State University, USA participated in the two keynote talk sessions.Prof. Bikash Pal from Imperial College London, UK, Prof. Syed Islam from Curtin University, Australia, Dr. Sushil Soonee from POSOCO, India and Dr. Nagaraja Ramappa from Power Research & Development Consultants Pvt. Ltd, India participated in the four panel sessions.A tutorial session on “Peer-to-peer energy trading in Bangladesh” was conducted by Mr. Hannes Kirchhoff, Chief Technical Officer, ME SOLshare; Bangladesh.

Among 69 submissions 31 accepted papers were presented. Best paper awards were given to the top 3 presented papers.All the accepted and presented papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library.
