The TEXAS A&M IEEE PES-IAS-PELS Joint Student Chapter was established in 1998 and the purposes of the Society are technical, scientific, literary, and educational. The Society shall strive for the advancement of knowledge of the theory and practice of electrical engineering and the related arts and sciences. The scope of the Society embraces all/any field related to planning, research, development, design, application, construction, installation, and operation of apparatus, equipment, structures, materials and systems for the safe, reliable, and economic generation, transmission, distribution, conversion, measurement, and control of electric energy.

In 2017, we were planning for the IEEE Texas Power and Energy Conference (TPEC 2018) which was successfully held February 8-9, 2018. TPEC is an entirely student-led conference held at Texas A&M University every year. The first TPEC was held in 2017. The number of attendees in TPEC 2018 was about 160 which had a considerable growth in comparison with 110 in TPEC 2017. In TPEC 2018, there were 25 paper sessions and one poster sessions. The number of presented papers is 75 which is conspicuously more than 34 papers which were presented in TPEC 2017.

Moreover, the branch organizes weekly events and seminars for electrical and computer engineering students in the University. We plan to continue holding weekly seminars and inviting speakers from industry and academia to keep the information of the students about the new researches and opportunities updated. In 2018, in collaboration with Energy and Power Group of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Texas A&M University, we organized 22 technical seminars. Another interesting event organized by our chapter in collaboration with Texas A&M University IEEE student branch, Generac Industrial Power Systems and Waukesha Pearce Industries was bringing Generac truck to Texas A&M campus. Students took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about power generation – sizing, unique applications, code compliance and installation with live demonstration in the truck.
