The IEEE PES Student Branch (SB) Chapters have an amazing environment for students to improve their technical, leadership, and soft skills. The PES SB chapters help the students to achieve great success in their future career as engineers in the global world. We have 376 PES SB chapters in different universities around the world. In 2018, 58 new PES SB chapters were established. A university can open IEEE Student Branch and then the Student Branch can form a PES SB Chapter with a view to improve their technical activities with PES support. In what follows, first the information regarding opening new IEEE SB and PES SB Chapter in universities is discussed. Next a short overview on PES SB chapters and PES High Performing Student Branch Chapter Program (HPSBCP) is presented followed by information about additional 2019 PES HPSBCP score for PES SB chapters with PES eNews Update articles.

Petition for Student Branches

Petitions for Student Branches can be submitted online. To form a new Student Branch:

• A petition by twelve (12), preferably more, IEEE Student members and at least three IEEE members above Student member grade who are faculty members teaching in IEEE designated fields of interest must be submitted to IEEE.
• The online application will request the name of the educational institution involved and the names of the Interim Chair and the faculty Counselor.
• The online application will automatically invite qualified members to sign the petition.

Petitions for Student Branch Chapters

Petitions for Student Branch Chapters can be submitted online. To form a Chapter:

• A petition, signed by not less than six (6), preferably more, IEEE Student Branch members, who are members of the technical Society, must be submitted to IEEE MGA Administration
• The online application will request the name of the Student Branch, the name of the technical Society with which the Student Branch Chapter will be affiliated, the name of the interim Branch Chapter Chair and the name of the Faculty Advisor, who must also be a member of IEEE and the technical Society
• The online application will automatically invite qualified members to sign the petition.

PES SB Chapter Activities

The PES SB chapters are a great opportunity to students engage with PES activities, increase their networking and make collaboration with other PES volunteers in their country and around the world.

We believe that PES students will be future PES leaders in country, region and global levels. They have made hundreds of PES SB chapter activities every year. Also, the IEEE PES HPSBCP have provided annual funding for PES SB chapters since 2014.

In 2019, PES will provide additional 2019 PES HPSBCP score to PES SB chapters with PES eNews Update articles based on 2018 activities. This is a great platform to archive good practices by a PES SB Chapter, which can help the new PES SB Chapters to make a better future plan. The PES SB chapters will have opportunity to send PES eNews Update articles (2018 activities) by March 30, 2019 (deadline). Also, all 2019 PES SB chapter activities published on PES eNews Update will be considered to additional score in the 2020 PES HPSBCP based on 2019 activities. So, we hope to receive great articles and provide an overview of the PES SB chapter activities in next PES eNews Update issues.
