The IEEE Guanajuato and Queretaro Joint Sections PES Chapter organized a Two-Day long Technical Workshop titled “Short Circuit Calculation and their Applications” during August 24-25, 2018 at Queretaro City. The event was supported by IEEE PES MDI 2018 which was focused in membership development from industry sector.

In the technical workshop, the speaker was Roberto Ruelas Gómez, CEM, IEEE PES Senior Member and a national prestigious speaker. He has a vast experience in the power and energy sector, e.g. Mexico federal verification unit for electrical installations and inspector of load centers and power plants interconnections. Roberto is an active part of the PES chapter volunteers.

The workshop had 30 participants, principally electrical contractors, inspector units and companies from the energy market where this topic is a day to day issue. The agenda covered on the first day were short current effects, national network data, effects of the electrical components and practice examples. On the second day, it covered single and three phase applications, protection and coordination and arc flash effects.

A very important note is that Mexico electrical regulations are in reviewing process for actual 2018 and now the SC values must be included in switchboards and MCCs personalized tags, by this the speaker Roberto is a part for the federal reviewers so he can advise to participants about this theme and show how must be completed in next electrical projects. This workshop was registered for the IEEE continuing education program and 22 PDH certificates for about 16 hours were distributed.
