IEEE Student Branch of the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) organized an “Awareness Program and PES DAY Celebration” on 27th April for the undergraduates to promote IEEE PES, IEEE student branch and to give knowledge about the PES and PES DAY. The event was lead by PES ambassadors Dilan Munasinghe and Iroshan Rathnayake.

Mr. Hasitha C Jagoda, the Chairman of IEEE Student Branch of OUSL welcomed the gathering. Mr. MK Dilan, the  former Chairman of IEEE Student Branch of OUSL and the Ambassador of IEEE Sri Lankan Section,  stated about the power and energy crisis happening in near future and IEEE student branch of OUSL is going to educate the society with the help of IEEE PES. He invited all students who are studying Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication, and Mechatronic Engineering, to gather around IEEE PES to Heal the World.

Keynote speaker, Ambassador of IEEE YP Sri Lankan Section, Mr. Mohomad Afrar explained about the PES and opportunities with IEEE PES to reach international level. He also explained about the things that can be done with the help of a society like PES to solve energy crisis with renewable energy systems. It was interesting and valuable speech, especially for newcomers to get an idea about PES and its activities.

After few ice-breaking sessions, the vice president of the IEEE SB of OUSL Mr. Harsha Shammika delivered the vote of thanks along with a small speech about the value of starting PES since the university does not have the IEEE PES SB chapter yet. The event was a part of the great initiative taken by IEEE Sri Lanka Section to celebrate global PES Day despite a very long university holidays that expanded for more than three weeks of month April.
