Workshop on ‘Execution of successful undergraduate projects’

IEEE Kerala section PES chapter organized one day workshop on ‘Execution of successful undergraduate projects’ for engineering students on 23rdSeptember 2017

“Every project is an opportunity to learn, to figure out problemsandchallenges,to invent and reinvent.

“How to do a major project?” is a frequently asked question by B.Tech when it’s time to submit their projects. This problem was identified and a workshop was held on 23rd September 2017 at the premises of College of Engineering Chengannur, to help students understand what is expected from them and to plan their project well to produce an outstandingproject.

The workshop was a one day event and the inauguration ceremony began with a silent prayer. Next the “IEEE Code of Ethics” was recited by Mr. Adarsh Vijay, Secretary of IEEE, College of Engineering Chengannur. Later the welcome speech was given by Mr. Arun M, Chairman of IEEE PES SBC CEC. The lamp was lit by all the dignitaries present there and the workshop was officially inaugurated by Dr. Sunil T T, Principal of College of Engineering, Attingal. Then the gathering was addressed by Mr. Raju M, HOD of Electrical Engineering CEC.

A few words of wisdom were shared by Dr. Jacob Thomas V, Principal of CEC. This was followed by a few words from Mr. Manoj Kumar, the branch councilor. Then the inauguration ceremony was brought to an end by the vote of thanks by Mr. Dennis Babu, Vice Chairman of IEEE PES CEC.

After this the participants were taken to their appropriate venue and the classes were taken over by the respective instructors. Workshops were conducted separately, for four different branches of Engineering viz. Civil (conducted by Prof. Adarsh S, Assistant Professor, TKMCE Kollam), Computer Science ( Prof. Binu A, HOD of IT Department, Rajagiri school of Engineering & Technology Kochi), Electronics & Communication (Dr. Sunil T T, Principal, College of Engineering Attingal ) and Electrical & Electronics (Dr. Dinesh Gopinath,AssociateProfessor,GEC Idukki),

The instructors mainly spoke about the wide range of resources that could be used by students to prove their depth of knowledge and application levels. They were introduced to many new software’s and applications that would help them give their projects a more professional and sophisticated makeover. They also enlightened students on how to plan their projects properly in order to produce expectedresultsin the given time limit. The instructors also covered the areas students have to stress on to get their projects to stand out from the crowd and be worth presenting at any competitions. Students were briefed on the points to be kept in mind while choosing their projects.
