Chemperi, Kannur: On Sept. 2, 2017 Vimal Jyothi Engineering College Kannur, in association with IEEE PES VJEC SB, conducted a program related to energy conservation in Eruvessy Panchayat. The program was conducted under the IEEE PES MDI scheme. The IEEE PES student volunteers traveled door to door, covering the houses, shops etc. situated in the 9, 10, 11 Wards of Eruvessy Panchayat.

The program was inaugurated by the President of Eruvessy Panchayat Adv. Joseph Isaac and Mrs. Pauline, Vice President Eruvessy Panchayat by lightning the lamp. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Fr. Dr. Thomas Melvettom, Chairman of VJEC, Fr. Jinu, Administrator VJEC, Mrs. Laly James, HOD EEE Department and Mr. Prabin James, IEEE PES Staff advisor, Fr. George, Bursar of VJEC, Mr. Sebastian Puthanpura, PRO of VJEC. The IEEE code of ethics was delivered by Mr Akhil Augustine.

Forty-four volunteers, split into 11 teams, covered the different regions of Eruvessy Panchayat. The students enlightened the people on the need to save energy and also briefed them about the contest conducted by VJEC in which the most energy efficient house/shop will be awarded.

The students received a positive response from the local people and all of them promised to try their level best in bringing down their energy consumption.
