Greetings from Region 5!

Region 5 is comprised of 14 PES chapters, 6 joint PES/IAS chapters, and 3 PES student chapters.  We are also actively trying to grow our region, so if you have an interest in starting your own chapter, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Todd Hiemer, PE at todd.hiemer.pe@ieee.org. We are looking to help start chapters in Dallas and Ozark sections.

Region 5 is excited to have hosted the 2015 PES GM conference in Denver!  It was an excellent event.

Region 5 Updates:

The chapter chair training was performed on Sunday of the PES General Meeting. PES will supplement new leadership to attend this training. We had three chapters apply for awards. We would like for the number of chapters applying to increase. We are looking to help chapters achieve this, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to Todd Hiemer, PE for assistance.

The Arkansas Chapter hosted two well-received events called the IEEE PES Plain Talk and Transformer Design and Manufacturing Workshop.  The monthly meetings are well attended. Way to go to the chapter leadership.

The Denver Chapter did an awesome job supporting the 2015 General Meeting. The Chapter also held their first annual IAS/PES Fundraiser Golf Tournament. They hosted more than 40 golfers. That sounds like an excellent reason for a trip to Denver next September. The Chapter toured ESS Metron along with having PK Sen lead the annual Senior Design Project Competitions.

The Central Texas Chapter has had 14 technical meeting which include two Distinguished Lecturers with one being PES’s Outstanding Educator. What an exceptional speaker and presentation. The Chapter also had a workshop on Utility-Scale Transformers along with three tours to: Active Power, Concurrent Design and ERCOT Control Center. The Chapter is planning for a tours of the new state of the art LCRA Ferguson Power Plant and TECO-Westinghouse along with workshops about Medium-Voltage Motors and Eaton’s Educational Seminar. I wish I could be there.

There are many more activities going on in Region 5 so if you or someone you know is looking to get involved there are many happy & eager people in the PES that are ready to welcome you to the team.
