IEEE PES Seeks Editor for Power & Energy Magazine

IEEE Power & Energy Magazine –the award-winning publication of the IEEE Power & Energy Society –is seeking an accomplished Executive Editor to lead the magazine editorial direction.

About IEEE Power & Energy Magazine

IEEE Power & Energy Magazine is a bimonthly magazine dedicated to disseminating information on all matters of interest to electric power engineers and other professionals involved in the electric power industry. Its mission is to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information on electric power and energy for the betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for our members.

About the Position

The executive editor has primary responsibility for appointing the editorial board members, soliciting feature articles, managing the review process of submitted articles, and selecting articles for inclusion in the magazine. The individual coordinates the production process with IEEE Pubs.

The executive editor will also solicit editorial columns for each issue that may include; Leader’s Corner, Guest Editorial (for themed issues), History, Society News, Awards, Book Review, Letters to the Editor, and the issue closing In My View.

The executive editor also has responsibility for selecting the articles and editorial content for the PES eNews Update–a 10-times yearly online publication which is an adjunct of the IEEE PES Power & Energy Magazine. The eNews Update focuses on important newsworthy items concerning the worldwide activities and achievements of PES, its organizational units, and its individual members.

Additional responsibilities may include assistance with assembling the annual media kit, specialized compendiums including the annual “best of P&E”compendium and targeted conference compendiums such as the T&D compendium.

The executive editor will also have responsibility for communicating with the translated versions of P&E magazine co-editors to provide guidance in maintaining quality standards in the local content review process.

Power & Energy Magazine Executive Editor Qualifications:

  • PES membership preferred
  • Knowledge of the Power & Energy Society
  • Magazine editorial experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the power and energy field; including the direction and business and technology developments
  • Good working knowledge of experts and leaders in the field
  • Familiar with the global geographic diversity
  • Experience working with Volunteers
  • Experience leading and working with an Editorial Board

Selected individual must be able to qualify as an IEEE Independent Contractor. Compensation will be negotiated
