PES Chapters – Frank Lambert
There’s one near you, Get Involved!
PES Chapters are the foundation of the society. The majority of our PES members never attend technical conferences or publish technical papers. PES members are, however, much more likely to be involved in their local Chapter activities.
The PES membership decline of recent years has been reversed with an all time record of over 31,000 members at the end of 2013. Special thanks are due to Meliha Selak, VP of Chapters from 2009-2013, for her efforts in forming 49 new chapters since 2008.
The growth is attributed to a confluence of factors: rebranding of the Society to be more inclusive of professionals involved in the area of focus; increased worldwide interest in energy and new energy technologies—renewable energy, Smart Grid, and electric vehicles—as well as changing workforce demographics. It’s a great time to get involved in YOUR local Chapter!
Get Involved in YOUR Local Chapter or Start a New One
There are 234 PES Chapters and 112 Student Branch PES Chapters around the world; chances are one is near you. A new Chapter Locator Tool was recently added to the PES website to help find your local chapter, http://www.ieee-pes.org/pes-communities/chapters/chapter-locator. Contact the Chapter Chair to volunteer to get involved!
