Working Group 3.1 – Testing
Scope
WG 3.1 is responsible for the standards related to the treatment of matters relating to testing. Included are the preparation of standards, recommended practices, or guides, and preparation, presentation, and review of technical papers concerning nuclear power plant testing. Types of testing include periodic, post-maintenance, and surveillance. Also included is the preparation of guidance and requirements for design in support of testing, development of testing procedures, operational availability related to testing, and test documentation. Additionally, the subcommittee is responsible for the NPEC standard regarding risk-informed categorization and treatment of electrical and electronic equipment at nuclear facilities.
The following standards are maintained by this WG:
- IEEE Std 336 “IEEE Recommended Practice for Installation, Inspection, and Testing for Class 1E Power, Instrumentation, and Control Equipment at Nuclear Facilities”
- IEEE Std 338 “IEEE Standard for Criteria for the Periodic Surveillance Testing of Nuclear Power Generating Station Safety Systems”
- IEEE Std 1819 “IEEE Standard for Risk-Informed Categorization and Treatment of Electrical and Electronic Equipment at Nuclear Power Generating Stations and Other Nuclear Facilities”

Meeting Information
The monthly meetings for P1819 revision development are held virtually via WebEx, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm (ET), on the 3rd Tuesday of the month starting July 12, 2023. Request details on how to participate in the monthly virtual meetings by contacting the WG Chair or by downloading the draft agenda
Bi-annual hybrid meetings (in-person with WebEx connectivity) are expected to be during January and July of each year in conjunction with NPEC.
The next WG 3.1 bi-annual meeting will be held in Garden Grove, CA as part of the JTCM on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 1:00 am to 5:00 pm PT and on January 15, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm PT. The draft agenda will be posted here ~30 days ahead of the meeting (or get it in iMeet).
