PREAMBLE

The 2nd Annual Symposium tagged “Special Topics from the Industry”, is one of the most critical platforms that afford students and staffs the opportunity to collaborate, share resources and ideas will industry leaders. This was held on the 18TH-19TH of August, 2016. The program provided the final year students of the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a perspective on the latest developments and best practices in the industry. Besides, the symposium brought together academics, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, IT practitioners, and the University management in FUTO. This year’s event was done in partnership with IEEE, FUTO SB and EEE department, providing a multi-stakeholder forum to expose staff and students to innovative strategies and technology trends in the industry.

ACHIEVED OBJECTIVES

The Symposium achieved the following objectives:

  1. Unveiled and helped the participants understand technology trends in the 4th industrial revolution.
  2. Provided the opportunity for students and staff to understand state of art in Electro Technology Industry.
  3. Facilitated interactions with industry practitioners on relevant technology areas/domains
  4. Created the avenue for networking and research collaboration with industry leaders in the various options offered by the EEE department.

INVITED SPEAKERS

Experts were selected from both the industry and academia for the sole purpose of exposing the participants on aforementioned areas. They Engr. Toby Obiefuna – MTN Nigeria, Mr. Chidiebere Iroakazi-PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc,  Engr. Ekene l Mbonu- ELDI, Engr. Ahmad Sadiq- Microscale and Mr. Ifeanyi Orajaka- GVE Ltd. Others include: Dr.I.E Achumba, Dr.G.C Ononiwu and Engr.U.C Iwuchukwu (FUTO Team).

SYMPOSIUM FEATURES

The symposium provided the needed industry exposure as well as the critical skills and in-depth knowledge needed for the 21st century workforce. Some of the outlined features include:

SUMMARY

In conclusion, the 2016 edition of the special Topics from the industry was a huge success. It is believed that the efforts invested in this project will be used to make a better annual departmental conference in the coming years.
