2021 – AI against COVID-19: Screening X-ray Images for COVID-19 Infections

It is caused by a virus named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19 has affected the lives of millions of people across the globe, causing 3.3 million deaths to date.

Who can participate?

Important Dates

First Phase:

  • Opening ceremony: May 27th, 2021
  • The competition starts on: May 31st, 2021
  • Workshop and Networking session: June 5th, 2021
  • The contest ends on: June 14th, 2021
  • Closing ceremony: June 17th, 2021

Second Phase (for the top 10 teams):

  • Deadline for submission of project proposals: July 15th, 2021
  • Announcement of the selected teams: August 22nd, 2021

The competition is being organized Canada-wide by IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) of the Montreal Section, Vision and Image Processing Research Group of the University of Waterloo, and DarwinAI Corp with National Research Council Canada as a potential collaborator. In addition, the event is being co-hosted by IEEE Young Professionals (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver Sections), IEEE Student Branches (INRS, the University of Toronto and Vancouver Simon Fraser University), IEEE Vancouver Circuit and Systems (CAS) Technical Chapter, and IEEE WIE Ottawa.
