Title:
The BoniRob–An Autonomous Mobile Platform for Agricultural Applications

Speaker:
 Slawomir Sander, Deepfield Robotics

Abstract:
In this talk we will present the latest version of the BoniRob. BoniRob is a multi-purpose platform for agricultural applications. Its 12 joints enable a quasi omnidirectional driving, including changing the track width. This allows the robot to be used in a wide range of applications. The BoniRob has a slot and can carry an application module for a specific use-case. Example use-cases are plant scouting, precision spraying, and weeding. We will show example applications from publicly-funded projects as well as describe our navigation module which enables autonomous navigation over row-based cultivations.

Bio:
Dr. Slawomir Sander (born Slawomir Grzonka) is a Senior Research Scientist at Deepfield Robotics, responsible for software development and product owner of the agricultural platform BoniRob. He studied computer science at the University of Freiburg where he received a Masters degree in June 2006 and a Dr. rer. nat. degree in 2011. His research interests lie in the areas of unmanned aerial vehicles, simultaneous localization and mapping, human activity recognition, and agricultural robotics. For his work on autonomous quadrotor systems, he received best paper awards at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in 2009 and at the International Conference and Exhibition on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in 2010.  Dr. Sander was furthermore nominated for best paper awards at ICRA 2010 for his work on human activity-based mapping. In 2014, he scored 2nd in the European ERF Tech Transfer Award with the BoniRob.
