Theme of session: This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the IEEE Blockchain Technical Community (BCTC) and its role in advancing blockchain technology globally. We’ll begin by exploring the BCTC’s structure within the larger IEEE framework and its evolution from an initiative to a technical community. Attendees will learn about the formation and operation of local groups, including the step-by-step process of establishing a new group and best practices for running successful meetups and events. We’ll delve into BCTC’s global initiatives, such as the annual IEEE Global Blockchain Summit, regional forums, and virtual series on topics like healthcare and energy. The talk will cover the community’s educational efforts, including eLearning modules, podcasts, and technical briefs. We’ll discuss BCTC’s contributions to standards development, with insights into the 25 published standards and ongoing projects. The session will highlight the community’s growth to over 60 regional groups and 13,000 participants worldwide, emphasizing the networking and collaboration opportunities available. We’ll also touch on the Blockchain Transactive Energy (BCTE) initiative and its potential impact on the energy sector. Attendees will gain insights into how they can get involved in BCTC activities, leverage the community’s resources for professional development, and contribute to the advancement of blockchain technology within their local IEEE sections and beyond.

Mr. González earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from California State Polytechnic University Pomona (1996), Master of Business Administration (MBA) from University of Redlands (2000) and completed coursework of Master of Science in Program Management (MSPM) from the Naval Postgraduate School (2009). He has worked in the aerospace industry and for the U.S. Navy as a Data Scientist, software programmer, project manager, training coordinator, past member of DOD Cyber Security Workforce (CSWF) – IAT2. He is a member of the Department of the Navy Acquisition Corps, Defense Acquisition University (DAU) – Acquisition Level-III Certified, CompTIA+ CE and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP). He is presently the Government-Industry Data Exchange Program (GIDEP) Education Coordinator as well as GIDEP XML Subject Matter Expert (SME).
