Abstract:

In this seminar, Prof. Pilitsis will describe her experiences with neurosurgeries for deep brain stimulation for the treatment of chronic pain and Parkinson’s Disease. This informal discussion is mostly oriented for students to ask questions regarding the surgical constraints for bioelectronic implants, device enhancement needs, challenges, and opportunities. The discussion will also focus on new treatment modalities that she has been pioneering, such as minimally invasive catheter-based ultrasound technology or MRI-guided focused ultrasound for brain tumor ablation.
