Abstract: Microwave-assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) is one candidate for next generation perpendicular magnetic recording and its potential has been demonstrated by recording simulations and experiments. In a MAMR system, the spin-torque oscillator (STO) is the most important component. Some requirements for the STO in MAMR heads are: 1) the high-frequency field from the STO should be stable and as large as possible, 2) the STO should oscillate with a low injected current, 3) an oscillation frequency that excites the medium to resonance is preferable and 4) high-frequency switching following the head coil current is necessary. In this presentation a micromagnetic analysis of write heads with integrated STOs, including all interactions, will be discussed, to find head designs which satisfy these requirements.
Short Bio: Dr Yasushi Kanai is a Professor of the Information and Electronics Engineering Department at Niigita Institute of Technology , Kashiwazaki, Japan. He has authored and co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewedjournal papers, more than 180 international and more than 180 national conference records. He specializes in micromagnetic analysis, both in perpendicular magnetic recording heads and media, and electro magnetic field- heat transfer coupled computations of hyperthermic treatment.
