IEEE holds an annual programming competition called IEEExtreme. This is a global challenge in which teams of IEEE Student members compete in a 24-hour time span against each other to solve a set of programming problems. Multiple programming languages are allowed, and you use this platform: https://csacademy.com/ieeextreme-practice/. This competition is 24 hours straight, though it’s broken up into different tasks. Members can bring as many computers as they want, google all they want, etc. Each team can have a maximum of 3 members, and different teams cannot work together.

Where?
Currently, CBU and UofM IEEE are in the process of reserving an exact location. Everyone who fills out the google form below will be updated to the location of the event as soon as it is finalized.
Who can compete?
Teams of up to three collegiate students who are current IEEE student members. A local college or university may form multiple teams.
What could I win?
Fame: Unlimited bragging rights and an item for your resume.
Fortune: The Grand Prize is a trip to the IEEE conference of your choice, anywhere in the world.

As stated before, this competition is global, however it must be proctored by a professional IEEE member. CBU IEEE and UofM IEEE are planning to host this year’s competition for the teams in the Memphis area, and we will have more details to follow. Blind Ambition – an interdisciplinary research and outreach effort pioneering assistive solutions for people who are blind and visually impaired.
Dr. Mohammed Yeasin, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
This research focuses on understanding non-verbal communications that spawned a new avenue for developing affect enabled dyadic conversation(i.e., Expression+, Expression, EmoAssist, i-FEPS, i-MAPS). Designing an adaptive assistive technology solution requires an understanding of the user’s need as set by their disability and their ability to perform the system-aided tasks with minimal cognitive effort. We introduced the notion of assistive thinking – a seamless blend of participatory design, and design thinking to develop technology solutions. In addition, we introduced modeling cognitive ability-demand gaps and collaborative sense-making to design personalized systems.
Dr. Yeasin is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Memphis and a Data Scientist. He is the recipient of National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Grant, Senior Member of the IEEE and Associate Editor of two peer reviewed Journals (BMC Bioinformatics and PRML). He has practiced machine learning for 15 years in the field of Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Vision, Cognitive Engineering, Human Computer Interaction and Assistive Technology.
