FedEx has agreed to host the RIA’s annual committee meetings, known as R15 week, at the FedEx Institute of Technology March, 2021 (tentative dates to correspond with the University of Memphis Spring Break – Mar 8 – 14)

Over 100 robot safety experts from the US and Canada will descend on to Memphis for a series of committee meetings. These meetings do allow for the public to sit in on, so we will set up seating in the top rows of the auditorium for those that want to sit in on the meetings can.

The committees that will be meeting during R15 week –

  • R15.06 Industrial Robot Safety Committee – this is the committee that sets US safety standards for Industrial Robots, mainly arms and their supporting equipment. This committee will be very busy as they work to make the new ISO 10218 Robot Safety Standard into the US standard.
  • R15.08 Industrial Mobile Robot Safety Committee – this is the committee that sets US safety standards for mobile robots in Industrial settings.
  • Standards Acceptance Committee (SAC) – this committee approves all robot safety standards for the US as they come out of their home committees.
  • US Technical Acceptance Group (US TAG) – this committee represents the US within the ISO Robotics Committee. They will be picking who will be the representatives for the upcoming ISO meetings in 2021. They will also set the US position when it comes to ISO standards. There are a bunch of new ISO standards in the pipeline that the US will need to set a position on during these meetings.
  • RIA-OSHA-NIOSH Alliance – this committee works to ensure the RIA, OSHA, and NIOSH are on agreement when it comes to robot safety from an enforcement position.
