December 16, 2014 – Dr. Dipankar Dasgupta, professor of computer science at the University of Memphis, has been named a Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).

The IEEE grade of Fellow is conferred on individuals with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honor and an important career achievement.

Dasgupta’s research interests include scientific computing, design and development of intelligent cyber security solutions inspired by biological processes. He has made significant contributions by applying bio-inspired approaches to problems in cyber security. Dasgupta is one of the founding fathers of the field of artificial immune systems.

He served as a program co-chair at the National Cyber Leap Year Summit, which was organized at the request of the White House Office of Science and Technology Directorate. Some of his groundbreaking work, like digital immunity, negative authentication and cloud insurance, has appeared in Computerworld magazine and other media.

In addition to Dasgupta’s research and creative activities, he also spearheads the U of M’s education, training and outreach activities on Information Assurance. He is the founding director of the Center for Information Assurance (CfIA), a National Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE-IAE) and in Research (CAE-R).
