Dean Sharafi is heading System Management, the operator of South-West Interconnected System in Australia. Dean holds a degree in Applied Physics, a degree in Electrical Engineering and a degree in Business Management. He has over 20 years of experience in power system engineering which includes Power System Protection, High Voltage Systems, Asset Management and Power System and Electricity Market Operation.He is a member of Australian Institute of Management, a Member of Engineers Australia and a senior member the IEEE. Dean has been actively involved with IEEE Power and Energy Society initiatives and Cigre Working Groups over the last decade. He is a member of the Governing Board of IEEE Power and Energy Society.

Dean has published many papers on power system protection, condition monitoring, asset management and power system protection. He also lectures as a Sessional Academic on Power System Earthing at Curtin University.

Jessica Shaw is the Member for Swan Hills in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly and Chair of the Parliament’s Economics and Industry Standing Committee. Prior to entering parliament, Jessica  was a senior commercial executive in the energy industry, responsible for developing and managing a wide range of regulated and unregulated assets. She has extensive experience in business development, commercial management and economic regulation, in both electricity and gas. Jessica’s early career was in foreign affairs. She was Political and Economic Attaché to the British High Commission and also worked for the Australian Senate’s Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee.

Jessica has three undergraduate degrees in law, politics and international relations and a Masters in Law from the University of Cambridge.

David is a electricity market specialist with over 25 year’s experience spaning power system planning and operations. David has held executive and management positions within regulated electricity network companies and the Australian national electricity market and system operator. He has successfully delivered nationally significant projects leading capacity planning activities, across both transmission and distribution networks.

David leads GHD Advisory’s Risk, Assurance and Regulation business area which delivers risk management, technical assurance and regulatory services to our clients.

Nyuk-Min has a PhD in Power System Engineering.   He has been employed by Transpower New Zealand Ltd. since December 2006 providing specialist analytical support to power system operations and assessing asset compliance with the Electricity Industry Participation Code.  He is currently a Principal Engineer in SO Power Systems Group focusing on mentoring young engineers and performing specialist studies related to emerging technologies and the impacts to power system operation.

Prior to his present appointment, he worked with Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (SESCo) in Malaysia for 10 years.  He has been involved in load flow and dynamic studies, generator testing, dynamic model validation, grid planning and power system operation.
