Special Session 13

Special Session 13 Emerging techniques for operation and control of renewable energy systems in smart grid
Organizers Professor Zhao Xu, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Date and Time 25 May 2018, 01.30 pm – 03.00 pm
Location MR326

This special session is focused on the emerging techniques that can enhance the efficiency, economy, security and flexibility of renewable energy systems integrated with power grids. The session should report not only the new methods for modeling and control of renewable energy systems but those that can facilitate operation and planning of transmission and distribution grids and with high renewable penetration.

Professor Zhao Xu received his B.Eng., M.Eng, and Ph.D. degrees from Zhejiang University, China, in 1996, National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2002, and The University of Queensland, Australia, in 2006, respectively. He is now a Professor with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was previously with Centre for Electric Power and Energy, Technical University of Denmark. His research interest includes demand side, grid integration of renewable energies and EVs, electricity market planning and management, and AI applications in power engineering. He is an Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SMART GRID, IEEE POWER ENGINEERING LETTERS, and Electric Power Components and Systems journal. He is also Chairman of IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of IES/IAS/PES/PELS.
