This special session is focused on the emerging techniques that can enhance the efficiency, economy, security and flexibility of renewable energy systems integrated with power grids. The session should report not only the new methods for modeling and control of renewable energy systems but those that can facilitate operation and planning of transmission and distribution grids and with high renewable penetration.

Bio

Professor Zhao Xu received his B.Eng., M.Eng, and Ph.D. degrees from Zhejiang University, China, in 1996, National University of Singapore, Singapore, in 2002, and The University of Queensland, Australia, in 2006, respectively. He is now a Professor with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was previously with Centre for Electric Power and Energy, Technical University of Denmark. His research interest includes demand side, grid integration of renewable energies and EVs, electricity market planning and management, and AI applications in power engineering. He is an Editor of IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SMART GRID, IEEE POWER ENGINEERING LETTERS, and Electric Power Components and Systems journal. He is also Chairman of IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of IES/IAS/PES/PELS.
