The IGCC meeting was held at the JTCM in New Orleans to discuss some important initiatives underway by the IGCC. These important initiatives include the PES Smart Grid Roadmap, the IEEE [email protected] Initiative, and the IEEE Smart Grid Vision 2050 next step. The final drafting of the Smart Grid Roadmap was held in preparation for submission to PES Technical Council, PES Governing Board, and IEEE Smart Grid Initiative chair.

The IGCC Smart Grid Roadmap Task Force shared its first draft of the roadmap, seeking comments and additions from membership. The decision was made to actively seek additional international input to the roadmap. The coming milestones were reviewed and updated; final roadmap draft by PES JTCM 2014, refinements and submission to the PES Technical Council, PES Governing Board, and IEEE Smart Grid Initiative chair shortly after JTCM 2014. After appropriate vetting from these stakeholders, the Task Force will finalize the roadmap by the 2014 General Meeting.

In other business, the IGCC became the PES home for the new IEEE [email protected] Initiative, currently being led by Doug Houseman.

The IGCC Smart Grid Roadmap Task Force (SG RM TF) held its first face-to-face session to establish the outline, scope of roadmap, and writing assignments. The meeting was held at Enernex’s Smart Grid Labs facility in Knoxville, TN.

At the PES JTCM 2013 meeting on January 14, 2013, the IGCC comments the project to lead the PES-wide efforts to develop a PES Smart Grid Roadmap of activities over the next decade consistent with the IEEE Smart Grid Vision 2050 and the IEEE Smart Grid Initiative. This effort was commissioned by the PES Governing Board at the 2012 General Meeting. The IGCC will be establishing a Smart Grid Roadmap Task Force with its first meeting in Knoxville in March 2013.

Erich Gunther, IEEE PES Intelligent Coordinating Committee (IGCC) Chairman and Governing Board Member-at-Large for Smart Grid, presented the IGCC plan for developing a PES centric smart grid roadmap at the IEEE PES Governing Board meeting this week in San Diego.  Erich was tasked by the Governing Board at a previous Governing Board meeting to engage the IGCC in the development of this roadmap.  The overall approach developed by the IGCC and presented by Erich today was approved with a request to significantly accelerate the effort.  There will be a rapid set of organizing calls with Governing Board and IGCC leadership leading to a series of IGCC lead webinars to further develop the IGCC roadmap project plan and implement it.  The Governing Board has set a goal of the 2013 ISGT Conference to present the PES  roadmap during the plenary session.  Stay tuned to this web site for more information!
