Publications

IAS EMC supports the publications of papers at conferences, in IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE Industry Applications Magazine. In order to be considered for publication in Transactions or the Magazine, authors must first present their work at an IAS sponsored conference and then  request an invitation to submit a paper to the Transactions or Magazine. Conferences are categorized as “Financially Sponsored or Co-Sponsored”, and “Technically Co-Sponsored”. Generally, all papers from a conference that is financially sponsored by IAS are eligible for an invitation to submit to Transactions. In the case of technically co-sponsored conferences, the annual MOU between the conference and the society defines whether or not papers may be invited to submit a version to Transactions. Typically, for technical co-sponsorship, the conference organizers may identify up to 20% of the papers as of a standard eligible to receive and invitation. There are exceptions for technically co-sponsored conferences with a history of high quality content, when all papers are eligible for invitation to Transactions.

Conferences

IAS Sponsored Conferences relevant to the Electric Machines Committee include: ECCEIEMDCITEC, SDEMPED

Technically Co-sponsored conferences include: ICEM, ICEMS, LDIA, OPTIM, SPEEDAM, EVER, WEMDCD, IET PEMD

EMC prefers that papers be submitted for ‘post-presentation’ review within twelve months of the presentation.  Papers that are more than two years old will not be accepted for review.

Transactions and Magazine

There is a single review process for Transactions on Industry Applications and Industry Applications Magazine, reviewers recommend accepting papers to one publication or the other. In practice, the vast majority of EMC papers are published in Transactions on Industry Applications. In the case of an IAS Sponsored Conference, you must wait until after the conference is over, then request an invitation as follows:

To receive an invitation from the Technical Committee Paper Review Chair to submit to IAS Transactions, fill in the form.

Under the EMC operating guide, the TCPRC is the current Chair of the committee.  Please consider if the EMC is the most appropriate committee for your paper. More appropriate alternatives may include the Industrial Drives Committee, the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conversion Systems Committee or the Transportation Systems Committee.

Typically, you will have 4 weeks to submit your paper after the invitation is issued, please do not request an invitation until you are ready to submit your paper.Your paper must be in the IEEE Transactions Template, available from the IAS publications web page http://ias.ieee.org/publications.html

To be in compliance with the new IEEE publications policy  (8.1.7 of PSPB operating manual 2016) IAS board requires the following actions by authors  submitting  papers to IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and the IEEE Industry Applications Magazine.

  1. The Transaction / Magazine  paper must not be a verbatim copy of the Conference paper. You are required to make changes to your paper after presentation at the conference.
  2. All papers submitted to Transactions / Magazine  must be modified to add a citation of the original conference paper
  3. The intent of the Presentation before Publication policy has always been to give authors the opportunity to receive informed expert feedback prior to journal submission. Authors should try to incorporate conference feedback into their papers prior to publication in Transactions / Magazine.

Please note that you may be required to explain the differences between the conference and Transactions versions, to the satisfaction of the reviewers and editors in the cover letter upon the submission. In the cover letter, please also specify the conference again.

Finally, in a 12 month period 2016-2017, EMC handled over 300 original paper submissions, each requiring individual invitation. The TCPRC will likely handle paper invitations, deadline requests etc in batches. It may be one-two weeks before you receive a response; if you are requesting an extension, please do so well before the deadline!
