The HSYP ( Hellenic Student and Young Professionals) Congress is the meeting of all IEEE Student Branches of Greece and Cyprus and one of the most important initiatives of the IEEE Greece Section. During the Congress, which took place in Athens on 3, 4 and 5th November 2017, all the Greek Student Branches present their activities. The presentation about IEEE Student Branch of our University, included information about the activities of IAS DUTh Student Branch Chapter so the participants could be informed about our society in general, what kind of actions do we organize and the perspectives it offers to its active members. As our Chapter is the only one in Greece, it is important to spread the advantages of IAS in order to inspire students to get involved with it and open local Chapters in their regions. Also, we had the opportunity to have a conversation with Mr. Marios Antoniou, IEEE Region 8 Action for Industry Chair and arrange future actions relative to industry and internships for students.
Moreover, we had the opportunity to participate in some interesting workshops. The first one was about cloud technologies and the lecturer provide as instructions to build a remote server. The second one was about iBeacon technology, which allows Mobile Apps to understand their position on a micro-local scale, and deliver hyper-contextual content to users based on location. The underlying communication technology is Bluetooth Low Energy. The lecturer explained how we can program such devices and gave us a taste its applications inside the industry.
During the congress, the participants met each other, shared innovative ideas and gathered experience and memories. It is true that such congresses have an important impact on the Student Branches’ further development.

On September 4th, 2017, Democritus University of Thrace SB IAS Chapter organized a presentation, in which several definitions were given in term of condition monitoring, fault detection, diagnosis and prognosis related to electrical machines operating in industrial environments. The lecturer was Dr.Gérard-André Capolino who is specialized in Control systems and Electrical Machines.
First of all, Dr.Gérard-André Capolino mentioned that electrical machines are key components in electromechanical energy conversion while in industry, three-phase AC electrical machines are supposed to be symmetrical in term of design and manufacturing when they are connected to the grid via a power converter or directly to it. Moreover, he referred not only to the differences among condition monitoring, fault detection, diagnosis, and prognosis but also to the relationships among them. In addition, he explained each one of them separately in order to clarify the reasons that their knowledge is really important.
Finally, one of the most significant parts of this presentation was the examples that were selected from different applications such as high-speed electrical traction, cranes and decentralized power generation, as they help the audience understand the significance of this presentation in practice.
