Women in Industry 2.0

Women in Industry is a collaboration between IAS UNA Student Branch Chapter (SBC) and WIE UNA Affinity Group (AG), oriented towards distinguishing the participation and contribution from the women in the Industry. The first edition took place in September 2018 and was a success, so we decided to organize it again. This year the event was held from 5 to 9 pm on August 27th in Auditorium Hall “Prof. Ing. Enzo Deberandi” – Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Asuncion.

The event kicked off with an introduction to the IEEE, IAS Chapter, and WIE Affinity Group, delivered by Carina Blasco, IAS UNA SBC Chair and Alicia Aranda, WIE UNA AG Chair. Later, Octavio Mestre, Event Coordinator, talked about the purpose of the event and invited the first speaker, Chemical Engineer Andrea Paredes to the stage.

Andrea shared her experience working in MAAHSA, a Paraguayan Rum Industry, where she started as an intern and now holds the position of Production Assistant Manager.

Then we introduced the Production Technologist Aurora Ayala, a member of the Paraguayan Plastics Committee, with 12 years of experience in the plastics industry. Aurora talked about the challenges of being a woman in charge of many male plant operators.

The third speaker was Industrial Engineer Andrea Insfran, Master’s in Industrial Engineering and PhD candidate in Industrial Engineering Sciences. Andrea gave us an inspiring talk about the advances made by women in STEM, she also shared her experience in research projects regarding industrial optimization.

This event was a source of inspiration for all the members of IAS and WIE, especially for women. Its purpose was to empower people, through real-life examples, so that they know they are capable of achieving leadership positions in the industrial field.
