On 15th June 2019 IEEE IAS SB Chapter IIT Mandi, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India hosted a distinguished lecture program. The members of IEEE SB Chapter IIT Mandi and School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE) students worked hard to prepare for this event. The DLP speaker was Prof. S. N. Singh, Fellow, IEEE, Vice chancellor, MMMUT, Gorakhpur, India. His talk was “Estimation of Grid Harmonics in the Presence of Renewable Energy Sources”. The DL was attended by the students of IIT Mandi and other institutes. This DL was the part of a national workshop on “Real-Time Digital Simulation for Power Engineering Applications”, 13-16 June 2019 at IIT Mandi.
Before the keynote talk, a welcome address was given by Dr. Bharat Singh Rajpurohit, Associate Professor and chair person of SCEE, IIT Mandi. Prof. S. N. Singh talk emphasized on power system design & operation like; Quality, Reliability, Security and Economy. Throughout his presentation Prof. S.N. Singh motivated the attendees to ask question which was very helpful to attendees who are working on power system and power quality areas.
Prof. Singh briefed major concerns of power system design & operation like; Quality, Reliability, Security and Economy. He covered major issues and challenges in Power System Applications. He also discusses on role of Power Electronics Applications in Power Systems and why Harmonics are matter of concerns. Prof. Singh has covered stat-of-art signal processing and intelligent techniques for estimation of non-stationary harmonics. He has shared several experimental results to support the analytical foundations. The participants raised several questions related to current scenario of power system stability and issues about harmonics.
