IEEE EMC Technical Meeting

March 9, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Co-sponsored by: Mr. John Larkin – Wurth Elektronik

The Huntsville Chapter of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society invites you to attend a Technical Meeting on March 9, 2017 featuring a talk given by Mr. Tom Milligan.  The program will begin at 5:30 pm with John Larkin of Wurth Elektronik sponsoring a free catered meal.  Mr. Milligan’s technical presentation will begin at approximately 6:20 pm after some short chapter status updates.

Synopsis: In a chapter of the Artech House book, Handbook of Reflector Antennas and Feed System, vol. 1, 2013, the presenter, Tom Milligan, discusses various numerical methods for the analysis of reflectors. These methods include aperture methods, GTD/UTD (Geometric theory of Diffraction), Physical Optics w/or w/o including PTD, MoM (CST, FEKO, WIPL‐D, TICRA), FDTD (CST), shooting and bouncing rays (SAVANT), etc. Since all methods cannot be discussed in a short lecture, except for a comparison between PO/PTD and MoM of small reflectors, the free student version of GRASP10 (www.ticra.com) is used to illustrate analyses of various single and dual reflectors. GRASP10 (from TICRA, a non‐profit educational foundation) is the worldwide industry standard for reflector analysis and is able to handle any type of reflector antenna system including scatterers using PO/PTD, MoM, and PWE (plane wave expansion) methods, but only the student version capabilities are used in the lecture. The presenter is the US distributor for TICRA. Ideally, listeners will follow along using the software loaded on their computers. The student version (no license required) can be loaded on machines with no time limitation and includes a free textbook (~400 pages) on reflector analysis. The installation software is obtained at www.ticra.com as a free download. The free student version can analyze many fundamental reflector antennas http://antennadesigner.org/reflectors_canonical.html with restrictions on details, but not on size and uses a GUI identical to the full version. The presentation, which includes audiotracks, can be downloaded from the presenter’s website:http://antennadesigner.org/about_ticra.html:       GRASP10_student_version_analysis.

The meeting will be held at ADTRAN in the East Tower, 2nd floor, Fountainview Conference Room. The directions are included below (follow the Blue line on the map).

The meal and presentation are open to anyone interested in EMC: IEEE membership is not required to attend. Seating is limited to the first 75 people registered. Please RSVP/Register below.
