Jacobs Engineering Receives IEEE Region 5 Outstanding Large Company Award

This award will be giving to a COMPANY within the Region that strongly supports IEEE members, Region 5, and the objectives of IEEE.

Jacobs Engineering is an international technical professional services firm. The company provides technical, professional and construction services, as well as scientific and specialty consulting for a broad range of clients globally including companies, organizations, and government agencies.

Jacobs Engineering Houston Office has been an IEEE Houston Section Corporate partner for more than 20 years and an active greater Houston Community business partner. Jacobs Engineering employee engineers have actively participate in various IEEE standards groups, IEEE CED Program and IEEE Scholarship Fundraising events.

The Jacobs Houston office participates (or participated) in: IEEE 841, IEEE 515, and API RP 14F. These standards are not only important locally but globally. These standards are applied not only to the Oil and Gas industry, but other Industrial industry worldwide.

IEEE 841 – The standard applies to premium efficiency totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC), horizontal and vertical, single-speed, squirrel cage polyphase induction motors, up to and including 370 kW (500 hp), and 4000 volts in National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) frame sizes 143T and larger, for petroleum, chemical, and other severe duty applications (commonly referred to as premium efficiency severe duty motors).

IEEE 515 – Specific testing requirements for qualifying electrical resistance trace heating for use in industrial applications in ordinary locations, as well as a basis for electrical and thermal design, are included in this standard.

API RP 14F – Is the Recommended Practice for Design, Installation, and Maintenance of Electrical Systems for Fixed and Floating Offshore Petroleum Facilities for Unclassified and Class I, Division 1, and Division 2 Locations.

Jacobs Engineering Houston Office has supported the local IEEE section by hosting the Continuing Education on Demand (CED) classes. The CED program teaches approximately 10 classes annually as way for engineers in petroleum focused industries to gain further knowledge on industrial power application topics and earn professional development hours for their PE license. The classes are held in the evenings and have a one to two night duration. Jacobs coordinates with the CED team to ensure that each attendee is approved to have access to the campus, that the meal provider also has campus access and that the facilities are set up in advance. Jacobs also helps with printing the PDH certificates for attendees.

Jacobs Engineering Houston Office has been a proud Golf Charity Scholarship Corporate Sponsor for a number of years. These scholarships have provided additional financial support to local high school and college students in the greater Houston Section area with an emphasis in STEM related degree programs.

Jacobs will pay dues for membership to one professional society each year. For the electrical department, this means IEEE membership. Anyone in the department (engineer or designer) may apply for IEEE membership.

Many of the Jacobs Engineering Houston Office employees participate in the IEEE CED seminars. The IEEE CED seminars attendees average between 35 – 85 local engineers, making a great impact in our engineering community.

Jacobs pays to send IEEE standards group participators to their Standards Board meetings. Jacobs Engineering also encourages employees to attend the CED classes and participate in the local Houston Section committees and events.

Jacobs Engineering award will be presented at the 2019 IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference during the Awards Banquet April 6, 2018 held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Lafayette, LA.  See http://r5conferences.org/ for details and registration.
