CASS Seasonal School on “Heterogeneous Cyber Physical Systems of Systems (HEPSoS) 2019”, Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2019

The Seasonal School on “Heterogeneous Cyber Physical Systems of Systems (HEPSoS) 2019” was held in Thessaloniki on Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2019 and was organized by Assoc. Prof. Yannis Papaefstathiou and Prof. Alkis Hatzopoulos, from the Computer Architecture Lab and the Electronics Lab of the Department of Electrical and Computer Eng., respectively. The presentations covered topics like Design of Embedded Systems software, Design of FPGA systems, Security in CPSoS, sensors, signal conditioning circuits, energy harvesting, as well as laboratory work on FPGA Design using Vivado  software. The lectures were offered by experts in the specific fields from Academia and Industry from Greece and abroad. A special session about IEEE CAS Society and IEEE Greece CAS/SSC joint Chapter activities was also organized.

The event was financially supported by the IEEE CASS “Seasonal School 2019” activity, the IEEE Greece CAS/SSC joint Chapter and the Research Committee of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Symbolic fees for the attendees were also charged. The IEEE CAS student members were accepted for free.  All the participants had access to lunches and coffee breaks and the presenters were also invited to dinners. By the end of the lectures attendees participate to a written test to examine their positive attendance with good results for the 90% of the them. Based on the results of the test, one of the students was awarded with the “Best participant award” and a prize of 100 Euros.

The number of attendees was 30. Twenty of them were IEEE members.

Evaluation by the Attendees:

An evaluation survey about the organization, the teaching material, the teachers, and the overall appreciation of the School was filled-in by the students after the end of the third day.  It showed that the satisfaction of the attendees was in average more than 85%, a score which is considered very satisfactory by the organizers. It must be pointed out that most attendees (>94%) asked to prepare a similar school for the next year, if possible.
