    Biography:
    My name is Brandon McCrary. I am a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas. I’ve spent my entire career in the electrical industry, starting out working for a commercial & industrial contractor in Carrollton doing basic electrical design work. I joined Eaton in Sept. of 2018, where I’ve worked in the Residential and Commercial Sales divisions, and currently in the Eaton (Formerly Cooper!) Power Systems Division as an Application Engineer. I obtained my Bachelor’s of Science Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University, and have since decided to pursue my Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Houston, with a specialization in Power and Energy System.     SPEAKER: Melissa Poggi Biography: Melissa is a Consulting Application Engineer with Schneider Electric. Prior to joining Schneider, she spent 13 years working in the consulting industry designing everything from large scale solar PV and wind farms, cogeneration plants, microgrids, various low voltage and medium voltage power distribution systems, data centers, conducting complex power system studies and commissioning work. She graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. She holds PE licenses in the states of Maryland, New York, Virginia, California, New Jersey and Texas, and is also a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and LEED AP. Melissa currently works to support design engineers on a variety of engineering topics, including electrical layouts, code requirements, and electrical design questions. Presentation Overview: With the need for resilient, sustainable and efficient power, the new energy landscape is microgrids. Microgrids are rapidly growing in popularity and in some places, becoming mandatory. But what is a microgrid? Schneider Electric is quickly becoming one of the industry leaders in both knowledge and products geared towards creating functional microgrid solutions. This presentation will provide an overview for the whats and whys of microgrids, along with discussing many key factors that need to be considered while designing a microgrid.

    SPEAKER: Emilio Morales Cruz Biography: Emilio is a Technical Application Specialist in Transformer applications at Qualitrol Company LLC. His focus is to support solutions in comprehensive monitoring for Transformer applications. Emilio attended Nuevo Leon State University in Mexico, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Electromechanical Engineering in 1980. He has over 30 years of experience in power transformer design which includes transformers up to 500 MVA and 500 kV, furnace and rectifier transformers and reactors. He is a member Bioof the IEEE/PES Transformer Committee, IEC and CIGRE. Emilio joined Qualitrol in June 2012 and previously worked with GE-Prolec, Ohio Transformer, Sunbelt Transformer and Efacec.

    Biography:

    Virginia Essary started her investigative career with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in September of 2012 – starting as an Investigator I and working her way up to Investigator IV in the Compliance & Enforcement Department. Prior to joining the Board, Virginia worked with the Texas Department of Public Safety in Austin, Texas. She is a native of Austin, Texas, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Economics from Texas State University.

    Dan Sullivan-

     

    Summary:

    I will deliver an overview presentation on FACTS devices with a focus on STATCOM, including mention of SVC and Synchronous Condenser.  We’ll start with some basics of FACTS devices, historical assessment of the technology and applications, recent market drivers, a case example, and short discussion on future technology trends.

    Biography:

       Mr. Sullivan, based in Fort Worth Texas, is a Regional Manager and Principal Engineer for POWER Engineers’ SCADA and Analytical Services (SAS) business unit.  A renowned industry leader in Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems, he heads up the Power Systems Consulting (PSC) services business that includes two diverse groups of Sr SMEs and Transmission Planning experts.  He continues to provide Advisory Services to project developers, electric utilities, and OEMs for development of advanced grid solutions in HVDC and FACTS technologies.  He maintains a broad technical background for FACTS & HVDC systems, including early project development and system planning stages through engineering, design, construction, and commissioning.

    During his tenure at Mitsubishi Electric Power Products (MEPPI), Mr. Sullivan managed the FACTS and HVDC Systems businesses including technical and commercial management of SVC, STATCOM, HVDC, synchronous condenser, and series capacitor systems.  He also worked in the system studies group where he led and executed a wide array of power system analyses and engineering studies associated with electrical transmission systems and equipment applications. He is an IEEE Senior Member and has served in many technical leadership positions within IEEE’s FACTS and HVDC Stations Subcommittee

     

  • IEEE PES Fort Worth Monthly Meeting – Joint Meeting With NTAEE and IEEE – May 17TH, 2023
    This month we’ll be having a joint meeting with NTAEE and IEEE. We will be having a panel with below panelist. The panel will focus on coordination between mechanical and electrical trades. 11:30-12pm will be networking and getting lunch and the program will begin at 12pm. It’ll be one you don’t want to miss. Make sure to register by Friday May 12th so we can get an accurate head count to the petroleum club. Panelist: Jeremy Snyder (ASHRAE) Jeremy Snyder began his engineering career in product development and the aerospace industry before joining Baird, Hampton & Brown in 2015. He has a bachelors degree and masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, and is a licensed professional engineer in the sate of Texas. Mr. Snyder’s experience includes mechanical and plumbing design in multiple areas ranging from healthcare to industrial applications. He is a past president of the ASHRAE Fort Worth chapter, and has served as a member on technical committees for industrial process air cleaning and industrial air conditioning and ventilation. Carson Linstead (IEEE) Carson is a Vice President at Huitt-Zollars in their Fort Worth office.  His experience includes serving as a Senior Electrical Engineer and Project Manager for a variety of project types including federal, industrial, consumer products, hospitality, mission critical, and aerospace.  His responsibilities have also included operations management in support of recruiting, financial modeling, and optimizing quality control within large project teams. Kyle Grice (IEEE) Kyle is the National Initiatives for the Aerospace and Industrial Manufacturing group of Burns & McDonnell. He is located in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX office and has experience as a Project Manager and Sr. Mechanical Engineer. He has diverse project management, mechanical engineering, and facility design layout experience including mission critical, manufacturing process/facility design, central plant optimization, building energy optimization, and military. Kyle is also a Certified Energy Auditor as well as a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma. Matt Breaux (NTAEE) Matt Breaux, CEM, CMVP managed and performed Test Adjust and Balance in industrial, healthcare, K12 and Higher Ed markets. For more than two decades he worked in Performance Contracting, most of that time on the performance assurance side of Option C guarantees in K12, Healthcare, Higher Ed and Municipality markets. His experience in Operations management on the Service side of a BMS company coupled with past experiences described, helped provide industry knowledge of best practices. Biography: John Kim has been in the energy storage industry for more than 35 years and is currently working as the Director of Utility & Industrial markets at EnerSys.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Engineering and his Master of Science in Engineering Management from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.  John’s background includes Engineering and Technical Marketing.  He is knowledgeable in energy storage systems selection, specification writing, maintenance, and troubleshooting.  John is an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards committee and a member of Battcon’s Technical Committee.  He wrote numerous papers and presented at various industry-related conferences over the years.
